SUKKUR: Six people were killed while eight others were injured in a clash between the Mugheri and Boke tribesmen over government land in the Pakho village near Kamber on Thursday.

According to sources, armed men belonging to the Mugheri tribe tried to forcibly occupy government land near the Pakho village. The villagers resisted the move and a heated argument ensued. Subsequently, the Mugheri tribesmen opened fire which was returned by the Boke tribesmen.

Six men were killed on the spot and eight others were injured as a result of fierce gun-battle. A heavy contingent of police accompanied by Rangers personnel eventually reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Sources said that in spite of being informed in timely fashion, the police reached very late. They added that the loss of so many lives could have been averted had the police reached on time.

The bodies and the injured were shifted to hospitals in Kamber and Larkana. The deceased were identified as Ashiq Ali Boke, Mukhtiar Boke, Muhammad Bux Channa, Liaqat Mugheri, Murtaza Mugheri and Deedar Mugheri.

According to sources, the Mugheri tribesmen forcibly occupied many plots in the past especially those belonging to the irrigation department. They added that in 2007, an armed clash took place between Mugheri and Boke tribesmen and Ameer Bux Boke was killed. This sparked enmity between the two tribes.
