Murder convict hanged in Toba Tek Singh District

Lahore High Court and Supreme Court had rejected his mercy appeals earlier

PUNJAB: A murder convict was hanged earlier this morning in the Toba Tek Singh District's Central Jail for the murder of three persons, Express News reported Thursday.

Muhammad Siddiq was handed death sentence in 2005 for murdering three men at a theatre in 2003.

During the time of his execution, prison security was very high and he was granted permission to meet with his relatives before he was hanged.

Since resuming executions last year, 24 convicts have been hanged across the country.

The interior ministry, on Tuesday completely lifted its moratorium on the death penalty in all capital cases, after restarting executions for terrorism offences in wake of the Peshawar school massacre.
