KARACHI: A student of University of Karachi (UoK) was shot dead near varsity in Gulistan-e-Jauhar within the limits of Mobina Town police station on Monday.

The deceased, identified as a 32-year-old Sajjad Hussain son of Maherban Ali, was doing his masters in criminology from the UoK's Criminology Department, said police.

According to the initial investigation Sajjad was targeted near Hussain Hazara Goth in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town while returning home from the university, said SHO Mobina Town Police Station Ashiq Ali.

Sajjad was shot at least three times and killed on the spot. The body was first taken to Darul Sehat Hospital and later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsy.

SHO Ali added that Sajjad had no affiliations with any political party; however, he belonged to the Shia community, adding that the motives behind the incident are yet to be ascertained.

No case was registered till the filing of this report, while further investigation is underway.
