PPP to nominate Raza Rabbani as Senate chairman: sources
PPP offers JUI-F position of Senate deputy chairman ; candidates to be finalised later today
According to sources, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Raza Rabbani as the party’s candidate for the position of Senate chairman, Express News reported.
PPP leaders Raza Rabbani and Qayyum Soomro met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Abdul Ghaffoor Haidri, and offered the JUI-F the position of Senate deputy chairman .

Later in the day, PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari will preside over a meeting of opposition parties in which the positions of Senate chairman and Senate deputy chairman will be finalised.
Sixty one-year-old Rabbani, a former advocate of the Supreme Court, has served multiple terms in the Senate and is the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security. He has been affiliated with the PPP since 1968, of which he is the deputy secretary general. Rabbani was also federal minister of state for law and Justice in the mid-90s.
