ISLAMABAD: The US is planning to train some 20 top Pakistani officials in state-of-the-art methods of detecting weapons of mass destruction, narcotics and eliminating terrorists.

The US will hold the International Border Interdiction Training (IBIT) to teach officials about “terrorists, narcotics and weapons of mass destruction, their components and delivery systems”, according to a ministry of interior order. The first-of-its-kind workshop will be held in Dubai, UAE, from January 23 to 28, the order said.

American weapons experts and narcotics officers will instruct the participants on tracing terrorists, using X-ray equipment and other skills regarding protection of weapons of mass destruction, officials said.

Over 40 officials from both countries will participate in the workshop. Six officials will be from the interior ministry and 14 from other government departments dealing with such matters.
