Jatoi family cases dismissed
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court dismissed on Thursday a petition filed by former federal minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi’s son and brothers in a murder and explosive substances case after the police denied that they were involved in the alleged offence. According to the police, a man identified as Javed Ali was killed and two children were injured in an explosion caused by a mortar shell near a petrol pump belonging to the late Ejaz Ali Jatoi.
The Mehar police booked petitioners Dadu Nazim Karim Ali Jatoi, Willayat Ali Jatoi, Zafar Ali Jatoi, Ahsan Ali Jatoi and Dhani Bux in a murder and explosive substances case. The Jatoi counsel stated that the cases were politically motivated to harass his clients, who had no role in the commission of the alleged offences. He prayed the cour to quash the proceedings. On Thursday, Dadu SP Investigations Abid Qaimkhani submitted in court that there was no material evidence against either the petitioner or his family.
They would not be challenged in the case pending before the Hyderabad Anti-Terrorism Court. It was in view of this statement, that the Jatoi lawyer did not press the petition, which was subsequently dismissed. In another identical petition, SP Abid Qaimkhani submitted that another two cases against Liaquat Jatoi were recommended by the Mehar police as A and B class and that the trial courts had accepted the police report. In a third case, petitioner Liaquat Jatoi had applied for bail. However, he had moved an application under Section 256K CrPC for the pending proceedings to be quashed but the trial court had dismissed the plea.
The SHC division bench dismissed the petition as infructuous. The SHC division bench comprised Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Zakir Hussain. Talking to the media after the hearing, Jatoi said that had been hoping for justice from the court.
