LAHORE: A 22-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her friend’s maid under mysterious circumstances in Bahria town in the Sundar police precincts on Sunday night.

Police officials said they received a call on their helpline with a man claiming a girl had been shot dead at his house by his maid.

A student of Punjab University, the victim Anam Ameen was a resident of Rahim Yar Khan.

Police identified the arrested accused persons as Sajid, who was also from Rahim Yar Khan, and maid Sanam, from Bahawalnagar.

Sajid told the police that his housemaid lived with him in his Bahria Town house. He added that him and Anam had become friends over the internet a couple of days ago.

Anam had reportedly visited Sajid’s house for lunch on the day the incident took place. Sanam, the housemaid, told police that she accidentally fired a shot that hit Anam due to which she died on the spot.

Police arrived at the crime scene and arrested both Sanam and Sajid.

Officials shifted Anam’s body to the city mortuary for an autopsy to be carried out.

An investigation officer claimed that the weapon used in the incident was Sajid's and his maid shot the girl out of jealousy as she was involved with Sajid, who is a lawyer by profession.

A case has also been registered against both the arrested and further investigations are being carried out.

As news spread across the city, people took to social media and tweeted about the incident.
