KARACHI: A two-day polio campaign covering the city’s eight most sensitive union councils (UCs) concluded without any trouble on Sunday evening.

The polio campaign was divided into two phases in areas where cases of refusals were repeatedly registered during previous campaigns.

The health workers reached their target of inoculating 73,934 in Baldia Town’s UC-2, Orangi Town’s UC-7, SITE Town’s UC-9 and Gadap’s UC-4 in the first phase. On the second day, they vaccinated 158,892 children in Gadap’s UC-5 and UC-8 and Landhi’s UC-1 and UC-2.

Health officials had decided to launch the drive against the crippling disease among the children living in the city’s most sensitive areas on the weekend due to both the availability of security personnel and the presence of families at home.

According to the Karachi Commissioner’s Office, which is leading the drive in the city, the total target for the weekend’s campaign was 240,955.
