Eradicating the menace: Anti-polio campaigns in sensitive areas

Around 241,000 children below the age of five will be immunised against polio virus on Saturday and Sunday in Karachi.

A two-day special anti-polio campaign will be conducted in eight highly sensitive union councils of Karachi while a similar campaign will be held in Sukkur.


Around 241,000 children below the age of five will be immunised against polio virus on Saturday and Sunday in Karachi. Arrangements for the two-day exercise were finalised during a meeting chaired by commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Friday.


According to the plan, the commissioner will supervise the campaign in areas where cases of refusals were repeatedly registered during previous campaigns. During the exercise, 1,285 teams of vaccinators will be involved. The sensitive union councils are Muzaffarabad I and II in Malir, Gujro, Songol and Manghopir in District East, Ittehad Town and Chisti Nagar and Islamia Colony in District West.


In Sukkur, a polio campaign will be held from February 16 till February 19. This was decided during a meeting presided over by Sukkur deputy commissioner.
