KARACHI: The leader of Anjuman Pasban-e-Aza, a Shia religious organisation, was killed in Chanesar Goth, near Mehmoodabad on Monday, while his nephew survived the attack.

Fifty-year-old Naiyyer Zaidi was in a car, with the licence plate number PG-4378, when unidentified suspects on motorcycles opened fire on him near the railway tracks in Chanesar Goth. He died immediately while his nephew, Rameez, survived the indiscriminate fire.

The Ferozabad police reached the site and took the victim’s body to Jinnah hospital. According to the police, Zaidi had dropped off his sister in Mehmoodabad and was on his way to work in Soldier Bazaar when the attack took place.

Zaidi, a resident of Mehmoodabad No. 4, is survived by a wife and one son.

DSP Ferozabad Asad Chaudhry said that an FIR against unidentified suspects has been registered on behalf of Rameez, who is also helping the police develop sketches of the accused. He said there were four men on two motorcycles involved in the attack.

Zaidi’s funeral was held at an imambargah near his house after Maghrib, after which he was laid to rest.
