ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday gave two week’s time to Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police to submit a report on a contempt application seeking registration of a case against a police official for defying court orders.

The contempt application was filed by Kareem Khan, a Fata resident who had lost his son and brother in a drone strike. He is seeking action against a Secretariat police official for not registering cases, despite court directions, against former CIA station chief Jonathan Banks and former CIA general counsel John Rizzo for their alleged roles in drone strikes that claimed lives of several civilians.

The Islamabad IG, who appeared in court in person, told the bench that the issue was a sensitive one and sought more time to formally register a case against the CIA officials. The police chief said that all stakeholders would be taken on board before registration of a case, as, according to him, he has also written a letter to the Islamabad chief commissioner.  The court gave him two weeks to submit a reply before adjourning till February 23.
