‘PML-N approached IMF, not PPP’

Sharmila Farooqui talks about PPP’s role in the country’s politics, said the party is used to solving problems.

SUKKUR: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) did not approach the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and it was the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and former finance minister, Ishaq Dar, who wanted their help, said adviser Sharmila Farooqui at a press conference at Circuit House on Sunday.

She said Dar had handed the country over to the IMF and left. “It is now our duty to pull our country out of the hands of the IMF, even if it means making unpopular decisions,” she added.

She talked about the PPP’s role in the country’s politics and said the party is used to solving problems, especially after a dictatorship. “We continue to run [the party and government] on democratic grounds, as long as we have the support of the people,” she added.
