It is believed that the film is set in the 1980s era and its sets are being constructed at 'film city'. The sets are a replica of the older structures of Ahmadabad.
Director Rahul Dholakia was keen on recreating old Havelis from the town with intricate wooden designs.
Also, considering that there are some crucial action scenes to be shot, a set is much better than the real location.
Shah Rukh will be playing the role of a gangster in the film, whereas Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a cop.
Mahira Khan will take the mantle as the female lead, making the film appealing to both Pakistani and Indian audience.
Earlier, it was reported that the shooting for Raees was scheduled to begin sometime in March.

@FJ: she wont have to, its a character driven role, the whole point of casting her was because the role demanded the actor to have a certain diction and credibility while mouthing Urdu-Hindi dialogues, they wont demean that by making her do item numbers or they would've cast any other resident Bollywood glam doll. The director of this movie also has a reputation of making serious meaningful films with social relevance.
Marketing tactics guys... by making movie hit in "indo - Pak".
I hope she doesn't stoop low and do a crazy number in the movie and becomes an object rather than a subject
