ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has opposed the proposed expansion in the caretaker cabinet of Gilgit-Baltistan. The government put in place a caretaker setup in the region after the PPP completed its mandated five years in power last month.

The leader of opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reminding him that as per the Constitution, the size of the cabinet cannot increase by 11% of the total strength of the legislative assembly.

After installing the caretaker setup in G-B last month, the federal government appointed five ministers in the cabinet.

Opposition parties complained that some of the nominees for the caretaker cabinet were known supporters of the ruling PML-N. They argue that this could compromise the impartiality of the caretakers installed for a fair elections.
