CM G-B forms 8 member parliamentary committee to ensure peace and sectarian harmony during Muharram.
GILGIT:
Chief Minister Mehdi Shah has formed an 8-member parliamentary committee to ensure peace and sectarian harmony in Gilgit-Baltistan(G-B) during Muharram, officials said on Friday.
“The committee will deal with cases of sectarian nature,” said an official asking for anonymity.
Giving the rationale behind establishing the committee, the official said that the members will use their influence to maintain an atmosphere of congeniality during Muharram.
“The chief minister will have a close coordination with the committee to assist and guide them,” he said, adding that the fresh spate of violence that resulted in the death of an official and injury of a senior PML-N leader charged the atmosphere of Gilgit. After of this incidence, the CM has decided to take such steps to ensure no other casualty takes place, the official concluded.
Other sources said that the committee will consist of members hailing from Gilgit and those belonging to other districts to assist them till the end of Muharram.
