Opposition leader Shaharyar Mahar moved a privilege motion in the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday against the Sindh government's decision to dissolve the parliamentary committee on Thar.
The four-member parliamentary committee was formed by speaker Agha Siraj Durrani on November 27 in light of a joint resolution adopted by the assembly unanimously. The resolution, moved by Mahar on November 11, had demanded to form a parliamentary committee to probe into the Thar situation so that such incidents are not repeated in future.
Soon after its formation, the committee had to visit Thar. However, it was abruptly dissolved by the speaker on the directives of the chief minister who announced a judicial commission will investigate the Thar situation.
Talking to the media, Mahar said that the provincial government authorities had breached the privilege of the assembly by dissolving the committee. "Assembly is the supreme forum," he said.
