The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a renewed drop in temperatures in Karachi starting Saturday, with a fresh cold wave expected to grip the city.

Over the next two days, Karachi's weather is forecast to experience a slight increase in temperatures, with lows of 13°C and highs of 27°C.

However, the PMD stated that a weather system currently entering the country could cause rain in parts of Balochistan. Once the system exits, Karachi will likely face cold winds that could bring temperatures down significantly.

"A new wave of cold is anticipated, with temperatures potentially dropping to a single-digit low of 6°C," the PMD added, noting that this cold spell could last for a week.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz dismissed the possibility of breaking Karachi's historical record. "The city recorded a low of 0°C in January 1934, and there is no likelihood of surpassing that," he said.

A western wind system will enter the country from Wednesday evening, bringing rain and thunderstorms, particularly from January 1 to 4, 2025, in Quetta, Ziarat, and Chaman. Light rain and thunderstorms are also anticipated in upper Sindh on January 3-4.

The met office stated that this weather pattern could persist until January 6, with more rain and thunderstorms expected during this period.
