GILGIT: A search operation was launched on Monday in Gilgit-Baltistan’s (G-B) Diamer Valley to hasten the hunt for proclaimed offenders who reportedly attacked a police team a day earlier.

On Sunday, at least two officials, Riaz Khan and Amanullah, were injured when a police team, led by Diamer Superintendent Police (SP) Rauf Qaisarani, was ambushed in Dudoshal area.

“We had received reports about the presence of a large number of absconders in the area. So, we decided to take action against them,” a police official told The Express Tribune.

According to another policeman, the assailants attacked the police when officials tried to arrest them.

The injured policemen were immediately shifted to a hospital in Chilas, headquarters of Diamer Valley, and were in stable condition, he said. Meanwhile, police received reports that the criminals have gone into hiding in the mountains to avoid arrest.

According to SP Qaisarani, the operation will continue till all criminals are arrested.

The miscreants had been involved in tribal feuds and were wanted by the police for various murder cases. A local court had already issued sentences against them.

However, the absconders had repeatedly escaped from the police and had gone into hiding.
