Militants, policemen among 10 shot dead

Around seven militants and three criminals were killed in separate encounters in different parts of the city on Thursday.


The Gadap Town police killed seven militants linked with the alQaeda in a targeted operation near Sohrab Goth. SSP Malir Rao Anwar said that they conducted the raid on a tip-off about the presence of militants in Hassan Nomani Colony, near Sohrab Goth. He added that at least seven of them were killed in the encounter and the police recovered explosives and ammunition from their hideout.

In an unrelated incident, the police were carrying out a snap check in Nazimabad when two suspects tried to escape under a cover of fire. They were, however, confronted and killed further ahead by the police. Near Steel Town, the police killed an alleged criminal and arrested another during an encounter on Thursday morning.

Killings

Five people, including three policemen, were gunned down on Thursday. According to sources, two policemen on a motorcycle were killed on Manghopir Road within the limits of the North Nazimabad police station.
