USAID urges NAB to ensure transparency

USAID alleges some NGOs responsible for distribution of aid have been involved in corruption.

ISLAMABAD: USAID officials have sought the help of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in ensuring transparency in aid distribution through Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO).

In a meeting with NAB Chairman Justice (retired) Deedar Hussain Shah in Islamabad on Thursday, USAID officials expressed their concern over corruption in the distribution of funds by some NGOs and provided details about them. NAB officials decided to take action against the NGOs involved in corruption.

The delegation asked NAB to play its role and ensure transparent use of aid coming to Pakistan under the Kerry-Lugar bill.

Donors and aid organisations were initially reluctant to give financial aid during the floods, expressing concern over corruption.
