Army chief General Raheel Sharif, while chairing a Corps Commander's conference on Thursday, said the entire nation was looking towards the political and military leadership of the country to take bold and meaningful decisions leading to stern action against terrorists and their sympathisers.
"The key is for all institutions to join hands for an effective and a prompt implementation of a comprehensive National Action Plan without losing any further time," he emphasised at the meeting which is under way at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The army chief also reviewed the work done by all those concerned for the execution of their respective assigned tasks listed in the National Action Plan, and directed them to follow strict time lines.
The forum reviewed the overall internal and external security situation in the country, with particular focus on the ongoing operations. A recent upsurge in Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) across the country was also reviewed, and its effects were appreciated.
A wider political consensus achieved against terrorism is not lost to smaller issues, the participants hoped.
On December 19, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had visited the headquarters in Rawalpindi to meet with Raheel Sharif and was accompanied by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Khan.
During his visit, the premier was briefed about the security situation in the country and what plans were being implemented to bring the situation under control.
The civil and military leaders have met several times to chalk out security plans in the wake of December 16 attack on a Peshawar school in which Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) gunmen killed 150 people.
