Rangers arrest 164 people in Karachi crackdown
Rangers arrest 164 suspects, heavy cache of weapons recovered.
KARACHI:
Rangers in Karachi arrested 164 suspects on Wednesday during a crackdown in various areas of the city to control the volatile security situation.
The suspects were rounded up during a ‘comb and search’ operation in the city, said a spokesman for the Rangers.
A heavy cache of weapons was also recovered from the suspects. The suspects have been handed over to police after a preliminary interrogation.
Rangers’ powers were extended in the city under the Anti-terrorism Act 1997 to control violence. The duration of the extension in power was further increased in September.
Meanwhile, over 10 people were shot dead in the city yesterday.
The Sindh government also ended a two-year ban on pillion riding yesterday but reports said that the rise in killings cannot be linked to the ban as killers on bikes mostly ride alone.
