Sindh Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Memon has given directives to revive the project which had been abandoned seven years ago, Daily Express reported.
The provincial government has assured of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) that it would give required guarantees for the project, sources said.
Following assurances by the provincial government KMC has decided to restart the project and would soon invite tenders, sources said.
The elevated expressway project was initiated during the tenure of former mayor Mustafa Kamal. The city authorities had even engaged a foreign firm for the development of the project. However, for reasons unknown, the project was shelved forcing the foreign company to move court against the KMC.
KMC officials said that the project will help improve the flow of traffic on Sharea Faisal. KMC Director General Technical Services Niaz Soomro said the elevated expressway project has been revived on the directives of Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Memon.
The 30 kilometre long and 58 feet wide expressway will be constructed in patches of 400 metres over a period of three years. The expressway will reduce the travelling time between Jinnah Bridge and Quaidabab by almost 30 minutes, sources said.
Moreover, it would facilitate flow of heavy vehicles without causing any traffic jams.

reasons unknown ??? are you kidding me ?? the new railway minister at that time refused to let the CDGK to use their land as agreed to build a fly over... thats why it was shelved.
The Government should invest on LRT or MRT. Or complete the project of Lyari Expressway and provide shuttle buses within Lyari expressway only so that common people can avail the use of this express road.
Cant finish simple flyover in malir n thinking of elevated express way what kind of joker these people are
Senseless investment as it will only facilitate private vehicles, whereas the issue of Karachi is availability of public transport. If they focus on local train system that would surely benefit the people of Karachi. The roads are congested because of rickshaws, chingchee, motorcycles and other small vehicles.
