Post Peshawar attack: Committee formed for victims’ counselling
The panel constituted by the health ministry consists of six members
ISLAMABAD:
Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar has directed the ministry to prepare a plan in coordination with key stakeholders for provision of counselling sessions on “post-traumatic stress management” for Peshawar tragedy victims.
The minister, in a statement on Saturday, said that the sessions would help the victim survivors including students, their families and teachers in recovering from the shock they have undergone.
She said that in wake of the deadly attack on school at Peshawar, causing considerable loss of precious lives and injuries to hundreds of innocent children and teachers had lead to an atmosphere of stress and anxiety for those who have survived.
Saira Tarar in this regard said the ministry notified a six-member committee comprising members from Mental Health and Non-Communicable Disease Coordination Cell of the ministry, Army Medical Crops, expert psychiatrists from Islamabad and Peshawar, WHO collaborating centre, UNICEF and DFID.
The committee would work for preparing an emergency plan for counseling sessions. It would develop a strategy to mitigate effects of the incident through media and press, she added.
