KARACHI: Nine new members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were inducted in the party’s Rabita Committee on Friday, according to a statement.

A joint meeting of the MQM Coordination Committee, chaired by Qamar Mansoor and Arshad Hussain, was simultaneously held in Pakistan and London to finalise names for the new committee.

The new members are Kahfilwara, Advocate Arif Khan, Gulfaraz Khan Khattak, Imbisat Malik, Dr Salim Danish, Dr Ayub Shaikh, Qasim Ali Raza, Mustafa Azizabadi and Izhar Ahmed Khan.

They were inducted following party chief Altaf Hussain's consent.

Altaf had suspended the MQM Rabita Committee on Wednesday for its failure to “appropriately react to the killing of MQM’s district vice president for Sialkot Bao Muhammad Anwar”.

'Govt should take notice of workers' killings'

While addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters Nine Zero, Ghazi Salahuddin said Karachi’s Chanesar Goth had become a hub of criminals, who were killing MQM workers with government support.

“..How can we establish peace in the city if criminals are given government support,” he said.

Salahuddin added that an MQM worker was gunned down Thursday night, and target killings continued unabated, demanding action against criminal elements.

He appealed to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the Sindh governor, the  interior minister and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take strict action against criminals in Chanesar Goth, adding that the MQM was in favour of the ongoing Karachi operation, provided it took all stakeholders on-board.
