KARACHI: Gas production from Qadirpur gas field has increased to 513 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). Sui Northern Gas Pipelines’ officials confirmed on Monday that gas production from the field has risen by 16 mmcfd to reach 513 mmcfd.

“Previously, there were no compressors installed at the plant connected to the field,” explained InvestCap analyst Nauman Khan. “The addition of 14 new compressors has helped increase the production from the site,” he added.

“As per Oil and Gas Development Company’s (OGDC’s) management, 12 of the 14 compressors are online and work to commission the 13th compressor is in final stages,” said Khan, adding that the field is now producing about 570 mmcfd of raw gas.

He highlighted that the field accounts for about 35 per cent of the total gas production of OGDC and about 26 per cent of the company’s top line. “We expect all 14 compressors to be operational by December 15, taking total production to 650 mmcfd.”

Supplies from Qadirpur gas field are transmitted to the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines and the increase is likely to augment the gas available to the utility provider. However, SNGPL officials were unable to provide specific details about the addition of gas to their supply due to this increase.

Prospects of Makori East field

Drill stem tests of Makori field situated in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have been completed by the Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL). According to a report issued by Topline Securities on Monday, “the initial test numbers are far more encouraging with oil flows tested at 3,209 barrels per day and gas production flows at 10.7 mmcfd.”

The report cited a notification issued by POL that stated that the full extent of discovery from the well will be known once the well reaches the planned depth during the next three months. The current depth of the well is about 3.4 kilometres.

Energy sector analyst Farhan Mahmood said that production activities from Makori East will likely commence six months following the completion of the drilling.
