Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Leopards complete remarkable comeback

Islamabad side was dismissed for 54 in first innings but defeats Tigers by 303 runs

KARACHI: Zohaib Ahmed claimed six Multan Tigers batsmen to guide Islamabad Leopards to a huge 303-run win in the penultimate round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold edition at the Multan Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

Needing only three wickets to win on the final day, Leopards were able to register a remarkable win after a first-innings collapse that saw them dismissed for just 54.

In another match, Shahzaib Ahmed took eight wickets for Karachi Dolphins as they defeated Peshawar Panthers by 10 wickets.

Panthers were 56-1 in their second innings at the start of the day and were dismissed for 306 to give Dolphins only 52 to win.

At the NBP Stadium, the hosts won the match against ZTBL by nine wickets with the help of Muhammad Nawaz’s 135 runs over the two innings and Muhammad Asghar’s nine wickets. ZTBL resumed their second innings on 135-7 but were only able to add 27 runs to give NBP a target of 69 runs, which they chased down in 18.2 overs with the help of Muhammad Nawaz’s 33.

Meanwhlie, the clash between the top two ended in a draw at the National Stadium of Karachi. SNGPL, who made 278 in their first innings, were at 539-3 in their second innings at stumps against PQA. Naeemuddin, the highest scorer of the Gold league, was on an unbeaten 211 while Azhar Ali made 154. The draw means that SNGPL will now contest the final on December 22.

The match between UBL and Wapda also ended in a draw as Wapda were unable to chase down the target of 349 and UBL were only able to take three wickets. UBL had resumed the on 143-5 in their second innings and declared at 284-9, with Ali Asad making an unbeaten 150.
