Promise fulfilled: Bahria distributes keys of model village homes

Malik Riaz names village Benazirabad, Muzaffarabad district administration puts it on map

Bahria Town management has distributed keys of 15 more homes of the under construction 300-house model village in rural area of Kot Addu.

Bahria Town chairman Malik Riaz had promised the flood victims of rural area Sanawaan in Kotaddu town of Muzafargarh district that he will construct a 300-house model village independent of any government assistance or loan.

Bahria Town management today distributed the keys of 15 houses among the victims of 2010 flood.

The ceremony was headed by the project director Bahria Town Gen (retd) Muhammad Yaseen who distributed the keys on behalf of Malik Riaz.

The ceremony also saw distribution of certificates and awards among the women who have completed the courses of football sewing in the technical vocation centre of Bahria Town.

Supporting women empowerment through economic independence, Bahria Town distributed 20 more sewing machines among the women from the flood victims.


At least 500 sewing machines have been distributed so far among the women of the flood victims in last four years and they have been also trained in the technical institution in the model village. Two female teachers have been also given best certificates for guiding and training the students about their practical skills.

The Muzaffarabad district administration has officially declared the Bahria Town model village part of the district.

At least 300 houses, each measuring 180 sq yds with two bedrooms, will be constructed in this model village. Of these 165 have been completed and handed over to the flood victims.

Saima Bibi who learnt to stitch footballs told The Express Tribune that it is for the first time that local women were working in a commercial organisation and earning wages. “I can earn almost Rs8,000 to 9,000 a month,” she said.

Malik Riaz has named the model village Benazirabad after Benazir Bhutto.
