The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will soon launch a pilot project for replacement of conventional streetlights with electricity efficient light-emission diodes (LED) in the capital.
Initially, streetlights installed on 111 light poles along Faisal Avenue would be replaced, after which the project will gradually be extended to other major avenues of the city.
Currently, 250 volt bulbs are installed on the
poles, which will be replaced with 175 volt LED bulbs, said a statement issued by CDA’s public relations directorate.
The LEDs, manufactured by the National Institute of Electronics, will be provided by the National Engineering Scientific Commission on concessional rates, the statement said.
The authority could save Rs10 million per annum in terms of reduction in electricity bills of streetlights following the project.
