It is learnt that Shaukat Aziz will not come back to Pakistan until asked by the special court’s three-judge bench and that he has transferred responsibility for legal battle to his attorneys in Pakistan. Aziz will, however, remain available for any investigation, sources said.
Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that after the special court’s verdict, Aziz approached legal experts – including his tenure’s prominent figure, Wasim Sajjad – to ponder on legal options.
They said the Wasim Sajjad-led team will now decide whether the judgment of Justice Faisal Arab-led Special Court should be challenged before the Supreme Court or should the option of filing a writ petition before a high court be exercised first.
“But one thing is very clear in our minds. We will challenge the jurisdiction of the Special Court, which directed the federal government to add Aziz’s name as abettor of Musharraf without having any such power or authority to do so,” said a legal expert, who is in contact with Aziz.
He said Aziz spends most of his time travelling between London and Dubai.
When approached, Wasim Sajjad said consultation is under way on different legal options but he refused to reveal details of deliberations, citing sensitivity of the issue. He said he would unveil all details after materialising the plan.

@Rawalpindi Kid: Not coming back, kid. Since when was he a Pakistani? Back in the day, it was quite a sight, really. Shortcut Aziz handing over a Pakistani passport to George Fulton. Mr Fulton saw more of Pakistan in a couple of months than Shortcut would ever care to in a dozen lifetimes. It is indeed lamentable that most of our people have to look to the US, UK, KSA or Canada for everything.
@Blithe: Shameful to blame him for corruption without any proof. Name a single credible case in Pakistan against Shaukat Aziz or Musharraf for corruption? During their time Pakistan prospered and that according to world bank and IMF figures. Shaukat Aziz was named finance minister of the year in Asia for his successes. There is no comparison between the highly successful Musharraf/Shaukat Aziz govt and the failed so-called democratic governments of the past 6 years. I wish Shaukat Aziz had spoken out during all this time Musharraf has been accused, but that does not take away from his contributions while he was finance and prime minister of Pakistan.
The pot calling the kettle black..much ado about nothing...tempest in a teapot...hypocrites suddenly acting like the holy men now...etc etc
I just refreshed my knowledge regarding Emergency 2007 by reading the text again and now I have a question for any law expert who reads my comment. Was Supreme court authoriesed to allow Chief Executive Chief of Army Staff authority to make ammendments in constitution ? If not then which is the bigger crime, if the second is a crime provided he was elected as president in uniform: 1. SC giving power to non elected Chief Executive. 2. Army Chief giving powers to Elected President. If first is a bigger crime then how Mr. Iftikhar Ch is not tried for Article 6 and General Musharaf is being tried for it.
Those who entered PTV are criminals but those who attacked Supreme Court are rulers. PMLN justifiably has Lion as its symbol because it has imposed Jungle ka Qanon in country.
Was emergency unconstitutional ? If an Army Chief was elected President of country then why an order by Army Chief is considered to be unconstitutional ? The question that he signed as Army Chief is baseless, he was an elected President Army Chief.
So who was holding a gun to his head when he wrote that letter advising Musharraf to impose emergency?
At least now Musharraf would have been known this reality that the that times' people who took full advantage of Musharraf's authority how are securing themselves from prosecution by leaving him alone and how many people (friends) are with him and how many people (foes) are against him in the time of need and difficulties????
@just_someone: He did not leave a cushy life to serve the natuon. He was bypassed for a senior role in Citibank and he had resigned ini protest. Coming o Pakistan first as a finance minister and then as a PM was a way to continue his pomp.
@Blithe: I couldn't agree with you more. He is an outstanding crook, and was the key man behind all the shenanigans in the Musharraf era! It will be hard to get this slime ball to face the justice system in Pakistan.
Anyone who thinks this bloke came to help anyone other than himself should have his head examined. In fact the power went to his head and he got an ordinary security guard fired for not recodnizing him at 2 am.
This is guy is loaded and getting lawyers ready. . He stole millions of dollars and is on the board of extremely shady companies in UK.
Musharraf and Shortcut deserve each other
Sadly this is what happens...people who leave very cushy lives to come help their country find their reputation lambasted by politicians. Aziz deserves praise for what he did to stabilize the country's economy.
