FAISALABAD: An effective waste management policy is crucial for cities, Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) Managing Director Amjad Ali Awan said on Friday. He was speaking at a seminar, titled Waste Management, at Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology (FAST). Awan said the lack of such a policy affected cleanliness arrangements, urban development, public health and economic conditions. “It is crucial to integrate all resources to introduce an effective waste management system that includes collection, transportation, utilisation and disposal of waste,” he said. He said that since its inception, the FWMC had strengthened coordination and relations with stakeholders to keep the city clean. Several steps had been taken to redesign the company’s transport system. The managing director said steps had been taken to educate citizens about the importance of cleanliness in society.  FAST Director Ziaul Qayoom said the responsibility for waste management could not be put on a waste management department only. Citizens should also play their role in this regard, he said.
