A woman was allegedly battered by her husband’s brother and other relatives in a village of Haripur, said the police on Saturday. Quoting Mehnaz Bibi, 26, the wife of Naveed Rafique of Teer village, the police said she was home alone as her husband was at work.
Tanveer, the younger brother of Naveed, his mother and another relative entered their house and allegedly started beating her with a club. According to Mehnaz, the attackers injured her severely and attempted to disrobe her but some neighbours came to her rescue, forcing the accused to flee.
Mehnaz was taken to Women and Children Hospital where doctors confirmed the attackers fractured her arm and leg.
According to family members, Mehnaz had only been married to Naveed for a few months and had been married previously. She was apparently still in contact with her ex-husband, something her in-laws disapproved of.
