Hafeez’s bowling action to be tested on November 24
The all-rounder will be in contention for the final Test if fit
KARACHI:
All-rounder Muhammad Hafeez, who had come under scrutiny after questions regarding his action surfaced at the end of the first Test against New Zealand, will undergo tests at the Loughborough University in Leicester on November 24.
The 34-year-old has been Pakistan’s main off-spinner after Saeed Ajmal was banned due to an illegal action and bowled several long spells against Australia in the recently concluded Test series and continued doing the same against the Kiwis in the first Test before suffering a hamstring injury.
Hafeez had already done some remedial work before the series against Australia and New Zealand after being reported in the Champions League T20. He had worked with Saqlain Mushtaq and National Cricket Academy head coach Muhammad Akram for a few days and there was a visible change in his stride, which had been shortened.
Hafeez will be returning to Pakistan and will then fly to England on November 23, a day before the testing.
Team manager Moin Khan has said that Hafeez will fly back directly to Dubai and will be in contention for the third Test if he is fit. “After the tests at Loughborough on November 24, Hafeez will fly back directly to Dubai from Birmingham on November 25,” he said. “If he is fit, he shall be in contention to regain his spot for the third Test against New Zealand at Sharjah.”
The team management and the selectors are confident that Hafeez will be cleared and will continue to fill the role of an all-rounder for Pakistan.
