Human trade: Police recover ‘sold’ child

Police on Monday recovered a six-day-old from two women who had ‘bought’ her from her relatives.


A Razaabad police spokesman said they had received a complaint that unidentified men had abducted Gull Fatima from a market. Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Rahim Yar Khan and his wife, registered the complaint, saying they had taken the child to the market to buy her clothes when the incident happened.


Investigation Officer (IO) Muhammad Imran told The Express Tribune a team was formed to recover the girl.


He said during preliminary investigation, it was found that the kidnapped girl was the daughter of Muhammad Aslam’s sister.


He said Aslam and his wife took the girl with them to a bazaar, saying they wanted to buy her some clothes.


He said the couple later confessed that they had sold Gull Fatima to Razia Bibi and Safiyya Bibi for Rs40,000“. He said police conducted raids and found the women and the baby. The women were arrested and Gull Fatima was handed over to her parents.


The women confessed to ‘buying’ the girl.
