
A draft rent control bill, presented by members of the National Assembly Abdul Manan and Rana M Afzal Khan in the lower house has been sent to a standing committee for consideration.
The bill aims to cover the interests of both the landlord and tenants.
Speaking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by Vice President M Ashfaq Chatha, Senator Syed Zafar Ali Shah said that businessmen play an important role in the economic development of the country and the government is determined to provide them maximum facilitation for promoting business activities with ease.
He stressed that the private sector is the driver of economic growth and government is taking measures to support the private sector to become a major partner
in steering the economy out of the current troubled times.
Elaborating on the need for a new law, MNA Abdul Manan said that the government was cognisant of the difficulties being faced by tenants and landlords in Islamabad because of the absence of a rent control act. He added that law will serve the interests of both parties.
