The Government of Japan has announced $100,000 (approximately Rs12 million) for those affected by recent floods in Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The grant, which is provided in response to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)’s call for support, is expected to be used for procurement and distribution of 1,500 food packs (each of 61 kilogramme) by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for 1,500 affected families. Ambassador of Japan Hiroshi Inomata hoped that the humanitarian assistance would help in improving the living conditions of the affected people, said a press release. He also recalled Pakistan’s support to Japan at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami in 2011, and reiterated Japan’s commitment to stand with Pakistani people in times of difficulties. The ambassador hoped that the current emergency relief would further strengthen relations between Japan and Pakistan.
