Promises, promises: Resolving energy crisis a top priority: minister

Said the government was taking steps to reduce load shedding and line losses.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Sunday said the government had dedicated its efforts to steer the country out of the energy crisis.


Talking to newsmen, the minister said the government was taking steps to reduce load shedding and line losses.

Asif said expressing differences of opinion was a part of democracy. He said criticism helped strengthen democracy.

He said it was unfortunate that some people were trying to jeopardise the system through negative political activities.

He said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had emerged as a strong political party under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The minister said the ultimate goal of democracy was to ensure dignity and fundamental rights of individuals, provision of social justice as well as socio-economic uplift of the country.

He said protection of the constitution, the parliament and democracy should be the top agenda of all political parties.

Asif said sit-ins were a threat to the national economy.

He said Pakistan could not sign on several foreign investors because of the protests in the capital.

The Minister urged people to show unity and reject conspiracies against democracy. He appealed to the masses to demonstrate brotherhood during Muharram.
