DI KHAN:

Men from the Mehsud tribe are being harassed by the Sindh police and this practice must be stopped immediately, said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam - Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F) MNA Maulana Jamaluddin, who was elected from South Waziristan.

He claimed that men belonging to the Mehsud tribe are detained illegally. If they are arrested by the Sindh police then they must be presented before the court, otherwise, these extrajudicial killings must stop, he said. Jamaluddin released a press statement on Saturday to list these demands.

According to Jamaluddin, the policemen do not treat people of the Mehsud tribe well and they continuously harass them, raid their homes and demand money under various pretexts. "These people are innocent and have gone to Karachi to earn their livelihoods," said the statement.

He claimed that the IDPs from South and North Waziristan are stopped at the Kashmore check-post and made to pay bribe to the local policemen. Jamaluddin said that nearly 600,000 Mehsuds were displaced in the previous Operation Rah-e-Nejat in 2009. Some of those IDPs came to Sindh, whose police adopted a cruel attitude towards them instead of taking care of them, he added.

He demanded a fresh survey on the number of Mehsud IDPs in the province as the benefits of the Benazir Income Support Programme do not reach them.

Jamaluddin raised these issues in the National Assembly but, he claimed, that no action has been taken so far.
