South Waziristan: Political administration frees seven tribesmen

DERA ISMAIL KHAN:

The political administration of South Waziristan (SWA) set free on Friday seven Mehsud tribesmen arrested on suspicion of being militants, an official in the tribal agency told The Express Tribune.

The released people were handed over to the Mehsud Jirga in Wana, the main town of SWA, he said. Three persons of Ahmadzai-Wazir tribe suspected of being militants were also released.

The political administration official denied that there was any link between the release of these common tribal people and the peace talks.

He said the media houses were running reports that the militant groups have linked peace talks to the release of arrested comrades. However, the official explained, the persons set free were not militants and their freedom had nothing to do with peace talks.

Meanwhile, Dera Ismail Khan Police has tightened security ahead of Muharram processions. Police have also decided to seal the balconies of all the buildings in Imami Gate, Saddar, Bannu Bazzar and the Kotle Imam areas on the route of the processions.
