PESHAWAR: German Aid for Afghan Children (GAAC), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), distributed food packages amongst 900 flood affected families of Madiyan, district Swat.

Addressing a gathering in Madiyan, Dr Eroes Reinhard, said that besides the distribution of relief goods, the projects initiated by the organisation, also include reconstruction and rehabilitation schemes in the area.

“The Pakhtun are brave people and I’m confident that in stead of looking towards others for help they will show resilience and start the reconstruction of their houses themselves,” Reinhard said.

Giving examples of his own country, he said that Germany had also faced similar situations but the German nation was able to overcome this because they took matters into their own hands.

He was confident that the Pakhtuns will follow the example of the German nation in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their flood hit infrastructure. Speaking on the occasion, GAAC Country Director for Pakistan Afghanistan Engineer, Alam Shahab, said that the organisation had always extended support and assistance to the people of Pakistan in every crisis and it would continue to do so in the future too.
