Law and order: Shopkeepers protest jewellery store heist
shopkeepers from Tandlianwala staged a protest demonstration against a robbery in a jewellery store
FAISALABAD:
Over three dozen shopkeepers from Tandlianwala on Friday staged a protest demonstration against a robbery in a jewellery store and demanded immediate arrest of the robbers.
The protesters gathered at Tandlianwala-Faisalabad Road and blocked it for traffic. Zafar Hameed, a protester, told newsmen that four armed men had broken into Ashfaq Jewellers in Tayyaba Town and taken away Rs250,000, one kilogram silver, gold jewellery worth Rs700,000, four mobile phones and a television.
“This is not the first robbery in the area. Robbers roam freely and the police has not taken any action to curb crime in the city,” he said.
“We complained about a number of robberies in Tandlianwala, but the police turned a deaf ear to our complaints,” said Ishaq Ali, a shop keeper.
Tandlianwala station house officer met with the shopkeepers and assured them that the robbers would be arrested soon.
On this assurance, the shopkeepers called off their protest and dispersed.
