KARACHI: In a surprising move, all-rounder Sohail Tanvir, who is contention for ODIs and T20s for the upcoming New Zealand series, has snubbed an all important Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match for a chance to play in the Kerala Premier League (KPL) in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Tanveer has chosen to play in an under-rated event where the level of competition is not high enough to earn money over premier first-class event back home casting doubts over his national team prospects.

The left-arm medium pacer has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the national side for the last 12 months with opportunities limited to make shift replacement roles.

The national selection committee had made it clear that players will be selected based on performances in domestic cricket and they should appear in it. With spots for the 2015 world cup still up for grabs, Tanveer’s decision to skip the domestic tournament would seriously dent his chances for a trip to Australia and New Zealand next year.

Tanveer has represented Pakistan in two Tests, 59 ODIs and 40 T20Is and was drafted into the one-day lineup against Australia, but only after an injury to Junaid Khan.
