Hindus celebrate Diwali with religious zeal across the world. Diwali, or Deepaveli, is a five-day festival that marks the triumph of good over evil. The festival is celebrated by renovating houses and temples by decorating them with fairy lights, lanterns and earthen lamps. On the second day of the festival, Hindus celebrate by lighting candles and setting off firecrackers to ward off demons. Sweets are distributed on the third day after the Lakshmi puja.
The fourth day is considered the day of food and devotion and involves sharing meals with extended families. The fifth day is a celebration between siblings marked by exchanging gifts and sharing meals.
