LAHORE: Camp Jail SP Shahram Khan said on Sunday a prisons management information system project had been launched at the facility on Sunday. He said the initiative had been taken to computerise records of inmates’ sentences, remissions and bails. Khan said the Home Department and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime had signed an MoU in this regard in July. He said the project would develop a database of 3,000 inmates using a finger and palm-print identification system. He said the system would store details of visitors’ ID cards for reference. Khan said the PMIS would also facilitate the timely production of prisoners under trial before courts. He said posting and transfer details of all jail superintendents, deputy superintendents, assistant superintendents and wardens would also be recorded in the database.Khan said the PIMS would record prisoners’ names, gender, caste, identification marks, aliases, marital status, sentences and medical, criminal and behavioural history. He said the Camp Jail warden had been trained to operate the database. Khan said the system would be introduced at 20 facilities in the next phase.
