ECP also asks contesting candidates to conclude their election campaign 48 hours before the polling day

ISLAMABAD:

Election authorities have barred federal and provincial ministers from taking part in poll campaigns in NA-149 where by-polls are scheduled for October 16. Under the election laws, the incumbent prime minister, chief ministers and cabinet members cannot campaign for any candidate.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also asked the contesting candidates to conclude their election campaign 48 hours before the polling day.

The National Assembly seat NA-149 in Multan had fallen vacant after former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi resigned and announced that he would contest the elections as an independent candidate. The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is believed to be backing him in by-elections.

The ECP said any person is allowed to convene or attend any public meeting 48 hours before the polls and the election campaign will end at midnight between 14th and 15th October.

@oBSERVER: Nothing to do with PAT and PTI, these norms were observed in the last year elections as well.

@Common Pakistani: The egoist Imran Khan has made this by-election as his ego issue.
