Reckless driving: Eleven perish in three road accidents

In first incident, 7 killed when a Rawalakot-bound passenger van coming from Rawalpindi skidded off the road

At least 11 people were killed and 27 injured in three separate road accidents in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.


In the first incident, seven people were killed and nine injured on Tuesday when a Rawalakot-bound passenger van coming from Rawalpindi skidded off the road while negotiating a sharp turn and fell into a deep ravine near Khariyan village, about 30-kilometre from Rawalakot, a senior police officer said.

The deceased were identified as Najma, Shabnam, Hafeez, Zohaib, Jehangeer, Sufyan and Sikander.


The injured were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalakot, where four of them were stated to be in critical condition.

In the second incident, two people were killed and 11 injured, three of them seriously, when a speeding passenger van plunged into a 400 feet deep ravine near Nosairi village in Muzaffarabad. One of the deceased was identified as Muhammad Sadiq. The injured were admitted to CMH Muzaffarabad.

Meanwhile, two people died and seven were injured when a passenger jeep skidded off the road near Kopra Galli village about 20 kilometres away from Muzaffarabad.

The dead were identified as Noor Hussain and Mir Hussain, both residents of Muzaffarabad. The injured were shifted to CMH Muzaffarabad, where three of them were stated to be in serious condition.
