The basic objective of the programme, launched by emergency officer Deeba Shahanaz Akhter, is to create awareness among the volunteers about the emergency service which includes common community hazards and community response group, securing family, preparing for response, first aid and basic life support, basic search and rescue, water emergencies, incident command system, body management and fire emergencies.
The programme was launched in different locations of Rawalpindi, including Rawal Road, Pir Wadahi, Civil Lines and Bahria Town, informed a press release.
Spokesperson of the rescue, Muhammad Waqas, informed that the volunteers will also attend a three-day training of Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) by internationally certified instructors of the emergency service being conducted in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines and Vietnam.
Shahnaz, who is also the course coordinator, said although an effective emergency management system in Punjab had been established yet the participation of organised and trained communities could play a vital role in building a safer Pakistan.
This capacity building programme, including the CADRE training, would create awareness and help the volunteers adopt preventive measures and preparation for disasters in all the respective localities to promote a culture of safety.
She added that Rescue 1122 was now working towards changing mindsets to establish socially responsible, healthy, safer and more resilient communities to achieve the goal of the emergency service.
