Review meeting: Drug board registers 200 new products

The board gave directions to recall all such batches from the market.

ISLAMABAD:


The drug registration board has approved around 200 products along with an application for a new drug, Sofosbuvir Tablet --- recently introduced therapy for the treatment of Hepatitis C.


These decisions were taken on Tuesday after a two-day meeting of the board held at the Ministry of National Health Serivces, Regulations and Coordination under the chairmanship of Director Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Registration Ghulam Rasool Dutani.


The board discussed various cases pertaining to registration and quality control of pharmaceutical and medical devices by the local manufacturers as well as imported products, a press release stated.

It also considered cases of substandard drugs and suspended registrations of two products after hearing these manufacturers and issued final notices to six manufacturers for being involved in the manufacturing of substandard drugs. The board gave directions to recall all such batches from the market.
