Reclaiming land: Notices issued to encroachers on GPO Road

In case the encroachers fail to honour the requests, their stalls and carts will be confiscated.

HARIPUR:

Municipal authorities have issued warnings to pushcart and stall owners and roadside hawkers to vacate government land without further delay.

Municipal Officer Regulation (MOR) Sikandar Mansoor Shah said on Sunday that legal action will be taken against all such illegal road businesses.

He added over 50 pushcart and stall owners have illegally occupied the sides of General Post Office Road, making it difficult for pedestrians as well as motorists to use the link road.

The MOR said that although the municipal corporation authorities can take action against encroachers whenever they want to, “we are fulfilling legal requirements by serving notices and warnings.”

In case the encroachers fail to honour the requests, their stalls and carts will be confiscated and they will be booked for violating law, added Shah.

Answering a question, Shah added that action against encroachments is being taken on the directives of the provincial government.
