IED blast: Three peace committee members killed

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s offshoot Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack.

GHALANAI: Three pro-government peace committee members died on Friday when an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted their vehicle in Daweezi, Pandialy tehsil in lower Mohmand Agency.

According to a political administration official, the blast occurred around 3pm when the committee members were passing through Daweezi.

The deceased were identified as Muzammil Khan and Bacha Khan, the brother and nephew of the peace committee leader Dr Tahir Than.

The third victim was another peace volunteer named Gul Ahmed.

The political administration has launched a search operation in the area, but no one had been arrested till this report was filed.

In a statement issued to the press, later in the day, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s offshoot Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack.
